For the in‑vitro quantitative determination of cashew protein residues in food matrices such as bakery goods, chocolate, sauces, beverages, and other processed foods. For professional laboratory use in allergen monitoring and quality control testing.

The Allergen‑Shield Cashew ELISA (Cat. No. A1948/A1996) is a quantitative sandwich enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) developed for the detection and quantification of cashew protein residues in food products labeled as cashew‑free. This high‑sensitivity assay provides reliable quantitation to ensure compliance with global food allergen labeling regulations, including EU No. 1169/2011, FDA, FSANZ, and Codex Alimentarius standards.

General Information

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) is a potent allergen belonging to the Anacardiaceae family. Major allergenic proteins, including Ana o 1 and Ana o 2, are highly stable and can trigger allergic reactions even at very low concentrations. The Allergen‑Shield Cashew ELISA provides sensitive and specific detection of these allergens for food safety monitoring and label verification.

Principle of the Test

The Allergen‑Shield Cashew ELISA is based on the sandwich enzyme immunoassay principle. Microtiter wells are coated with antibodies specific for cashew proteins. Standards and extracted samples are added to the wells, allowing antigen binding. After washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP)‑conjugated secondary antibody binds to the captured cashew proteins. Following substrate addition (TMB), a color develops proportionally to the cashew concentration. Absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Performance Characteristics

  • Limit of Detection (LOD): 0.25 ppm cashew (0.053 ppm cashew protein)
  • Limit of Quantification (LOQ): 1.0 ppm cashew (0.21 ppm cashew protein)
  • Standard curve range: 0–25 ppm
  • IC50: 5–15 ppm
  • Recovery: 91.3% (CV = 6.2%)
  • Intra‑assay CV at 5 ppm: 5.9% (n=16)
  • Intra‑assay CV at 15 ppm: 6.2% (n=16)
  • Cross‑reactivity: walnut (0.13%), pecan (0.05%), and pistachio (0.01%) at 100,000 ppm
  • Validated for multiple food matrices including chocolate, flours, and confectionery

Storage and Stability

Store all reagents at 2–8 °C. Do not freeze. Protect colorless reagents (TMB substrate and standards) from light. Reseal unused strips with desiccant immediately after use. Expiry dates are printed on the labels. No quality guarantee applies after expiration or improper storage.
