RAPID DETECTION OF CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICILE FROM HUMAN FECAL SPECIMENS
The C. DIFF CHEK 60® test is an enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) for use as a screening test to detect Clostridium difficile antigen, glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), in fresh or frozen human fecal specimens from persons suspected of having C. difficile disease. This assay is not suitable for fecal specimens that have been preserved or placed in transport medium (Cary Blair or C&S).
TECHLAB® C. DIFF CHEK 60®
Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) is the protein produced by all C. difficile bacteria, regardless of their toxin-producing ability. Testing for GDH is a good screening marker for C. difficile infection, but follow-up testing is necessary because a GDH result alone does not indicate if the strain can produce toxin.
Clostridium difficile infection usually occurs when the normal microflora of the intestinal tract is altered or killed by antibiotics. Once toxigenic C. difficile growth begins, toxins are produced, causing diarrhea and colitis. Toxigenic strains of C. difficile carry the genes encoding the toxins. The disease results from the toxins that the organism produces.
