Description

TECHLAB LACTOFERRIN SCAN® Diagnostic Kit

FOR THE RAPID NON-INVASIVE DETECTION OF HUMAN FECAL LACTOFERRIN

3m enviro swab flat 373 627 image

LACTOFERRIN SCAN® is a quantitative ELISA for the measurement of fecal lactoferrin levels, a marker for fecal leukocytes and an indicator of intestinal inflammation. Lactoferrin is very stable and is not degraded during infections.

The LACTOFERRIN SCAN® test detects lactoferrin in liquid, semi-liquid, and solid human fecal specimens. Results from Lactoferrin standards ranging from 6.25 to 100ng/mL provide a standard curve used to determine the concentration of Lactoferrin in test specimens. Lactoferrin levels in feces specimens greater than 7.25mg/mL are considered elevated.

LACTOFERRIN SCAN®

  • Quantitative measurement of Lactoferrin
  • Results after 80 minutes
  • Accurate measurement of both solid and liquid fecal samples using novel pipet design
  • Performance Characteristics
    • Sensitivity 81.5%
    • Specificity 96.5%

Lactoferrin is a marker for fecal leukocytes present in the stools of people with intestinal inflammation due to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and C. difficile infection. A positive test result indicates an increased level of fecal lactoferrin and warrants additional testing.

Diarrheal diseases can be classified into inflammatory and noninflammatory diarrhea. Non-inflammatory diarrheas include those caused by viruses and most parasites and are, for the most part, effectively treated with simple oral rehydration therapy. Inflammatory diarrheas, on the other hand, tend to be more serious and need to be followed up by more extensive testing.
