SWABS FOR ALLERGENS IN THE ENVIRONMENT

With the increased numbers of people suffering from food allergies, it is important that food manufacturers minimise the risk of cross contamination in the production facility. Validation of cleaning equipment is an integral part of an allergen control plan, as ineffective cleaning of surfaces in the production area can leave traces of allergenic proteins potentially contaminating an allergen free product.

Analysis of swabs taken from equipment or surfaces before and after use provides evidence that cleaning procedures have been effective. Swabbing also allows problem areas to be identified so that corrective action can be taken, and helps to prove that allergenic proteins have been removed to below specified levels.

3M™ Environmental Collection Swabs are used to collect environmental swabs samples from surfaces, processing machinery etc, on which allergenic proteins may be present. The swabs are validated to be used with the range of 3M™ Rapid Protein Allergen and Quantitative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA).
